The Junior League of Annapolis and The Office Depot Supply Drive Fill 950 Book Bags For Needy Children

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – [Aug. 24, 2005] – The Junior League of Annapolis collected enough supplies to fill 950 backpacks during their 12th annual school supply drive at the Office Depot stores in Annapolis and Severna Park.

Miss Teen Annapolis, Marisa West, was on hand to help kick off the supply drive at the Office Depot in Annapolis Harbour Center on August 6th. She attracted a lot of attention to the collection table and looked very regal in her tiara and Miss Teen Annapolis sash. This exciting event was followed by two other drives at the Office Depot in the Severna Park Market Place and again at the Harbour Center on August 14th.

Each year the JLA provides book bags filled with school supplies for children on the free lunch program in Anne Arundel County. This year’s Book Bag Project will benefit children at Brooklyn Park, Maryland City, Van Bokkelen Elementary and Park Elementary Schools. The Office Depot donated all of the book bags, and many generous people donated the supplies. Over 50 members of the Junior League Of Annapolis donated their time to make the drive possible.

The Back to School Book Bag Project is a program that began in 1993. The Junior League of Annapolis with the assistance of grants and donations acquires and assembles book bags filled with school supplies for needy children in the Anne Arundel County community to ensure they start the school year prepared. With the help of corporate and independent donations, over the past 12 years the JLA has distributed over 10,000 filled book bags!

The Junior League of Annapolis is the leader in making our community a place where all children can reach their full potential.
