Annapolis, M.D. – [November 26, 2006] – The Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. is honored to announce the dedication of a room, earmarked for Women’s Health and Wellness Education, named in its honor at the Anne Arundel Medical Center Clatanoff Pavilion. The new Junior League of Annapolis Room is a tribute to the memory of Fran Bauer, a founding member of this premier civic women’s volunteer organization, which has been active in improving the local community for over twenty-five years.

The evening ceremony, which took place on November 15th, 2006, was officiated by Karen Doyle, Executive Director of Women’s and Children’s and Surgical Services at Anne Arundel Medical Center; Damon Bradley, Major Gifts Officer at AAMC; Karen London, AAMC Coordinator of Women’s Health Education and Meg Samek-Smith, President of the Junior League of Annapolis.   According to Karen Doyle, “the new Junior League of Annapolis Room exemplifies the spirit of Anne Arundel Medical Center’s vision to be the destination health system in our region, and for the AAMC Women’s Education Center to be the preeminent source for inspiration, health education and support for women and their families”.

Karen London, who serves as AAMC’s primary liaison with the Junior League of Annapolis, Inc., praised the organization’s Volunteers for their efforts in mentoring expectant teen mothers through their Teen Empowerment And Mentoring Project (TEAM), which was formed in 2000.  Several young mothers who had attended the project’s birthing classes, along with their Junior League mentors, also participated in the room dedication. The mothers brought along their infants, young children as well as extended family members to witness this momentous occasion.   In her remarks, Meg Samek-Smith alluded to Fran Bauer’S love of mentoring in her years as an active member of the Junior League of Annapolis, and how fitting it was to be honoring her with this lasting tribute. Mrs. Samek-Smith summarized the evenings’ festivities by stating, “We look forward to superior Women’s Educational Programming in the Junior League of Annapolis Room, and to working together with Anne Arundel Medical Center on other ventures that achieve our joint mission of enhancing our community”.
