Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. Continues to Educate on the Importance of Eating Well and
Staying Healthy with their Kids in the Kitchen Program
ANNAPOLIS, Md.—April 2, 2012—With the goal to raise awareness and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity, Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. teaches children how to make healthy lifestyle choices through their Kids in the Kitchen program. This month, JLA will hold several family-friendly lessons and demonstrations at local events to engage healthy eating and snacking.
“During Kids in the Kitchen events, kids have fun making hands-on snacks and trying new foods, and parents learn proper food portions, new recipes, and a new way to teach their children how to prepare healthy snacks with a fun, interactive activity,” said Megan Esposito of JLA “This month, Annapolis residents will find our members whipping up tasty, nutritious snacks at the Annapolis Youth 5K, at a Chesapeake Children’s Museum event, and at St. Anne’s Family Fun Day!”
All kids are welcome at the Kids in the Kitchen tasting table, and below are the details regarding the upcoming family-friendly events.
April 7, 2012 – A team of Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. volunteers will be onsite at the Annapolis Youth 5K at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, and will nourish the young runners with a special Kids in the Kitchen demonstration. April 15, 2012 – Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. will host a Kids in the Kitchen demonstration at a Chesapeake Children’s Museum event held at the Eastport Harbour House Community Center from 2 – 4 p.m. Easy recipes that kids can make at home will be shared.
April 28, 2012 – Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. will support the Preschool for the Arts at St. Anne’s by participating in their Family Fun Day from 9 – 11:30 a.m., at the Red Maple Pavilion (covered/outdoor) at Quiet Waters Park. The event will feature a one-mile walk/run along the nature path, field activities, a parent resource table with take-home support materials, snack demonstrations, and a family gathering with refreshments and prizes.
“Our members work hard to enhance the educational experience of Anne Arundel County students in need by focusing on nutrition through the League’s anti-obesity initiative, Kids in the Kitchen, and as we reach out to the community with our support, we hope to make an impact on more and more young, local families each year,” said Sophia Santillan of Junior League of Annapolis, Inc.
