JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ANNAPOLIS, INC. HOSTS PIG & PEARLS!

Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. invites the community to spend the afternoon on the Chesapeake Bay with its fundraiser BBQ and oyster festival!

Annapolis, MD October 13, 2011 – Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. invites the community to participate in its inaugural Pig & Pearls event on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Mayo Beach Park in Edgewater, Maryland.

This family friendly event features barbecue, oysters and libations, and includes entertainment by the Baltimore Bluegrass Band, children’s activities and a big screen TV for football fans. The afternoon will feature a Chance raffle and silent auction with prizes such as tickets to a Redskins game, Army/Navy 2011 tickets, a weekend trip to LaPaz, Mexico, Capitals tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants, Eastport-a-Rockin’ tickets and more.

Tickets are $45 for adults, $5 for children ages 3 – 12, and free for children under 2. They can be purchased online at www.jlannapolis.org. Proceeds from the event benefit Junior League of Annapolis, Inc’s programs to improve the lives of women and children in Anne Arundel County.

The event is sponsored by: CostaBaja Resort & Spa, Homestead Gardens, Ladida Creative | Branding & Advertising, Miller Lite, Yuengling and the Oyster Recovery Partnership Shell Recycling Alliance. ____________________________________________________________________ HELPING PRESERVE THE FUTURE OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY The Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. will partner with Maryland’s Oyster Recovery Partnership Shell Recycling Alliance. Oyster shells from Pig & Pearls will be collected as part of the Oyster Recovery Program in an effort to restore oysters to the Chesapeake Bay. Oyster shells provide critical habitat for new oysters and other important marine life to grow so returning them to the Bay and its tributaries is critical. In fact, oysters are a “keystone species” that used to filter the Bay in just days. Now, it takes more than a year. The oyster shells collected during Pig & Pearls will be replanted into the Bay with new baby oysters helping the ecologic health of the Chesapeake Bay as well as preserving Maryland’s cultural heritage About Junior League of Annapolis, Inc.
