JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ANNAPOLIS, INC. HOSTS NUTRITION EVENT FOR KIDS

JLA Kids in the Kitchen Program Teams up with Whole Foods Market Annapolis to Teach Parents and Kids About Healthy Eating

WHAT:           Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. and Whole Foods Market Annapolis will host a fun-filled afternoon of food tasting, easy-to-make cooking demonstrations, healthy recipes, shopping guides, and tips from a registered dietician. These free, hands-on activities will educate parents and children about nutritional choices and how to prepare healthy meals and snacks that are tasty and affordable.

WHO:             Junior League of Annapolis, Inc., together with Whole Foods Annapolis, will join Anne Arundel county children and their families.

WHY:             The Kids in the Kitchen initiative is a response to the alarming statistics that nearly one-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight[1]and that childhood obesity has been show to be the leading cause of many health issues including pediatric hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and coronary heart disease[2].

Kids in the Kitchenis a nationwide initiative of The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. that focuses on combating the problems of poor nutrition and childhood obesity.  Year round, JLA develops programs for Anne Arundel County children that incorporate food tasting, healthy snack preparation and nutritional information.
