JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ANNAPOLIS, INC. HOSTS HEALTH FAIR FOR KIDS

JLA Kids in the Kitchen Program Presents a Health Fair to Get Kids in “Ship Shape”

WHAT: Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. and Chesapeake Academy will host a fun-filled afternoon of interactive activities including health screenings, fitness exercises, food demonstrations/tastings, nutritional tips and creative movement. These free, hands-on activities will educate parents and children about healthy choices they can make everyday.

WHO: Junior League of Annapolis, Inc., together with local fitness facilities, pediatricians, dentists, restaurants, grocery chains and civic groups.

WHY: The Kids in the Kitchen initiative is a response to the alarming statistics that nearly one-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight  and that childhood obesity has been show to be the leading cause of many health issues including pediatric hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, and coronary heart disease . 

Kids in the Kitchen is a nationwide initiative of The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. that focuses on combating the problems of poor nutrition and childhood obesity.  Year round, JLA develops programs for Anne Arundel County children that incorporate food tasting, healthy snack preparation and nutritional information.

WHEN:  Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Chesapeake Academy, 1185 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Arnold, MD.
