Community volunteers to help develop reading skills for at-risk children

Annapolis, MD [September 16, 2008] – Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. is bringing our Talk, Play, Read program to the Eastport Terrace and Harbour House communities.  Developed in conjunction with Leadership in Action Program, the Talk, Play, Read program will educate caregivers and children, ages 0-5 in Eastport Terrace and Harbour House neighborhoods.  Our trained volunteers will spend the first Friday of every month (October through May) leading activities designed to develop reading skills for at-risk children.  Each monthly Talk, Play, Read event will include story time, a hands-on craft activity, snacks, and a speaker on a topic related to child rearing.  As a bonus, each child will leave with an age-appropriate book for his or her home library and a goodie bag.  A raffle will also be held at the end of each session for a bag full of groceries.  This event is free and open to all residents of Eastport Terrace and Harbour House caring for children ages 0-5.
