ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND – [DECEMBER 6, 2005] The Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. (JLA) announces the distribution of over $4,500 in community grants.   Successful applicants will attend and be recognized at the Junior League’s Holiday Luncheon on December 9th at the Chart House in Annapolis.

Anne Arundel County Court Appointed Special Advocates “CASA” will receive $1,621 towards training manuals for this year’s volunteer class.  CASA ensure the right to safe, stable homes for abused and neglected children involved in the court system.

Center of Help/Centro de Ayuda “COH” supports the welfare and health of Hispanic individuals and families in Anne Arundel County so they can become self-sufficient, productive members in their communities.  The JLA will award COH $900 toward the creation of a client database.  This will enable COH to serve more individuals and to analyze data on the needs and locations of clients.

YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County’s Sexual Assault Program will be given $2,000 to further their “medical accompaniment” service to victims of sexual assault.  The money will be used to fund the purchase of sweat suits, underwear and toiletries to be given by the YWCA’s trained volunteers to victims prior to leaving the hospital.

Resources for the 2005 Community Assistance Donations come in part from the proceeds of the Junior League’s various fundraising activities. These include “Of Tide and Thyme” JLA cookbook; and “Chefs by the Bay” spotlighting the area’s chefs to be held next on March 26th 2006 at the Sheraton Barcelo in Annapolis.

Throughout its 25-year history, the Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. has made Community Assistance Donations to approximately a hundred community groups in Anne Arundel County. For information on the Junior League of Annapolis, call their offices at (410) 224-8984 or email jlannapolis@toad.net.
