JUNIOR LEAGUE BRINGS HOLIDAY CHEER TO ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

JLA Community Programs Reach Anne Arundel Homeless, Children in Foster Care and Hospitalized Children 

Annapolis, MD – [January 4, 2010] – In the spirit of the season, Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. has given back to Anne Arundel County community members who need it the most – residents experiencing homelessness, children in foster care and children recovering from H1N1 flu. 

Throughout November and December, JLA’s homeless outreach program collected and distributed 227 coats and 150 bags of hats, gloves, scarves and socks to Sarah’s House near Fort Meade and Light House Shelter in Annapolis.

At a luncheon on December 9, Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. and community partners presented 40 Department of Social Services (DSS) Case Workers with donated and wrapped presents for over 160 Anne Arundel County foster care children, ages 0-20.  These gifts were collected, wrapped and delivered by members of the League in conjunction with Indian Creek Lower School in Crownsville, Balanced Life Skills in Annapolis and Kmart stores in Crofton and Edgewater. 

Finally, on December 15, JLA delivered 75 activity kits for H1N1 pediatric patients at Anne Arundel Medical Center.  H1N1 pediatric patients are in isolation and in need of uplifting activities including bubbles, Play-doh, coloring books and crayons, and puzzles.  The League will continue its volunteer work or community outreach with the AAMC Pediatric unit this spring in anticipation of the opening of the new 2011 Pediatric wing.
