JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ANNAPOLIS, INC. AWARDS COMMUNITY GRANTS

Grants Awarded to Three Anne Arundel County Non-Profit Organizations

Annapolis, MD – [December 9, 2009] Junior League of Annapolis, Inc. (JLA), announces the distribution of $2,775 in grants to Eastport Girls Club, Shanahan Children’s Clinic and Live Arts Maryland for their charitable work in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The grants were presented on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at JLA’s holiday luncheon at the Loews Annapolis Hotel.

Eastport Girls Club (EGC) received $1,000 for their one-to-one mentoring efforts.  The funds will lead to the development and implementation of a mentoring program specific to the needs of the youth in the Eastport community.  EGC provides structured and positive after school opportunities for girls living in public housing in Eastport.

Shanahan Children’s Clinic received $1,175 to help provide medical care to uninsured children, aged birth to 19 years, who live in Anne Arundel County. 

 Live Arts Maryland received $600 to fund a portion of their free ticket program for Anne Arundel County students. The organization presents musical performances and provides music education programs to musicians of all ages in our county.  The ticket program is available to county students and provides them a free ticket to a Live Arts Maryland concert. 

 Resources for the 2009 Community Assistance Donations come from the proceeds of JLA’s fundraising activities, including sales of A Thyme to Entertain and Of Tide and Thyme cookbooks, Chefs by the Bay, the JLA Annual Fund, Volunteers on the Run 5K, and the Wrap it Up! gift-wrapping fundraiser at Westfield Annapolis.
